Of life and video games...

Hypothetical Scenario 1: Boy is born. Boy goes to school. Boy goes to college. Boy becomes an engineer. Boy gets a job. Boy gets an MBA. Boy gets a better job. Boy works 9 to 9 (24 hours i.e.) Boy gets a promotion. Boy gets another promotion. Boy switches job. {Insert n number of loops here, and when you're done continue} Boy retires. Boy dies. In between, somewhere, boy gets a wife tailor-made to his parents requirements and has a baby boy who continues in his shoes.

Hypothetical Scenario 2: Boy is born. Boy goes to school. Boy rebels against parents. Boy pursues an offbeat career. Boy falls in love. Boy does what he wants, when he wants. Boy becomes successful or crashes in helpless failure. Boy marries his sweetheart or does not: ending his days alone or becomes a womanizer and pursues other prospects. Boy dies. Has children or not, who may or may not follow in his footsteps.

I have taken two completely extreme scenarios, but the bottom-line is that most if not all real-life cases fall somewhere in between. My point? If the essence of life can be summed up in a paragraph with a word count of 100 odd words, doesn't it kind of make life... somewhat less poignant than what is portrayed by the Monte Cristoes and the D'Artagnans in the thousands of pages describing their adventures? Granted that the books had several other characters which were more important, but what of the central character. Safe to say that at least half of a book is dedicated to a central character and that would be... rather more than 100 words!!

I know what you'd say: that's fiction. Grow up lad. You're delusional, et al. Well that was my original point. If life is less exciting than fiction, why do the morons harp about the reverse being true?

Bottom-line? Life as we know it is boring! And we are constantly searching for ways to alleviate this boredom. How else do you explain the phenomenal success of Facebook and mafia wars (guilty as charged!)!!

So you see, we who play mafia wars are not at all anti-social! No sir! We are completely normal!!! Or extreme deer hunter for that matter! Eh Sayantan??? :)
